Hi there! I am Michelle Bergman, a lifelong resident of Northern Kentucky who works and teaches in her Independence, Ky studio. I’ve trained as a classic oil painter, graphic designer and decorative finisher and am now focusing my work to combine all of these styles into work on canvas, wood panels and hand-painted wallpaper. I’m a lover of all things creative – it’s just a part of my DNA!
I consider myself a mixed media artist because of my varied backgrounds and enjoy working with a wide selection of media including acrylics, textured plasters, charcoal, vintage and hand-painted papers, fibers and unusual tools.
Through years of working with clients and designers as a decorative finisher, I’ve become skilled at adjusting my style as a kind of chameleon to match the needs of each project or commission. I thoroughly enjoy integrating the client’s story into the project wherever possible, and am confident in working very large when needed.
My favorite subject matter includes loose, moody landscapes, expressive florals, textural abstract work with mark-making and depth, and work inspired by nature. My goal is to keep the image loose and imperfect with layers of paint and plasters to create depth and interest. I almost always leave evidence of the work of my hands with sketchy marks. That’s what makes it stand out from big box decor.
Inside the studio on our property, we have created a space where you can join in the fun and get creative. Painting parties, diy furniture painting, stitching and other mixed media hands-on workshops are offered for beginners to professionals. Have a group who would like to schedule a private event? Contact me to make arrangements.
One of my biggest passions is helping others find ways to express their creativity. I believe we were all born with creative talents, and with some practice and experience, we can use those talents to make things we are proud of.
Whether it’s through a commission, workshop or helping you find your voice as a creative, I look forward to working with you!
